Past Events

The participants, of the 2nd year NANOCON'10 international conference held in Olomouc on the 12th – 14th October 2010 and organized by the Czech Society for New Materials and Technologies in cooperation with TANGER Ltd., had the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the results of research and development of nanomaterials in the Czech Republic and abroad as well as specific applications.

91 lectures ,concerning 18 different thematic areas, have been read for 251 participants from 16 countries within three days of the conference.

Totals

Number of participants 251 thereof 48 foreign
Number of reports 174 thereof 91 lectures and 83 posters
Number of students 57
Number of States 16

The leading Europe´s scientist Professor Michael Giersig , from the Institute of Experimental Physics of the Freie Universität in Berlin, has lectured the initial presentation entitled "Miniaturization or nano-sizes in technology-quo vadis?".
Other scientific reports refered to nanomaterials, their characterization and preparation, as well as issues of nanostructured metallic materials, nanosilver, nanocomposites, carbon nanostructures, materials for electronics and optics,  nanoceramic materials or nanofibers. Attention of participants has been attracted by a lecture, of Professor Eva Sykova director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine AV CR, on the use of nanotechnology in the regenerative medicine, such as biocompatible scaffolds based on nanofibers used for the healing the wounds.
The research team from FZÚ AV CR led by Assoc. Emil Pollert , has presented their progress in research and development of magnetic nanocomposites, which could streamline the diagnostic method of magnetic resonance, as well as the therapeutic method of magnetic fluid hyperthermia. Professor Dillert from Leibniz University in Hannover, has outlined the interesting possibilities of the use of new photocatalytic materials containing titanic oxide.

The poster session has presented 83 posters. Their professional and graphics level, has been reviewed by the conference program committee and the authors of the three best posters have received the prizes.

"The conference has indicated the current research direction of nanomaterials in the CR in comparison with other countries and presented their potential applications in industry, in medicine or in environment", Associate Professor Radek Zboril, senior supervisor of the conference, has mentioned. Attention has been devoted also to the influence of nanomaterials on nature and human health, as well as the standardization of various procedures related to the characterization and use of nanoparticles and the issue of labeling products containing the nanoparticles.

The researchers  from the CR had the most numerous representation at the conference  NANOCON'10. The results of research and development of nanomaterials in Olomouc have been introduced by 12 universities and colleges, 15 research institutes of the Academy of Sciences CR, some other research organizations such as the National Institute for Nuclear Safety, Czech Metrology Institute or the Research Institute for Labour Safety, and for three decades of private-sector subjects - private research organizations (such as COM TES FHT, SYNPO, SVÚM, Molecular Cybernetics) or production companies with the strong research backgrounds (e.g. CPN, NanoIron, Nanopharma, SPUR, TESCAN). NANOCON has thus demonstrated to having become the largest event of its kind in the country, where the Czech "nanocommunity" has met , and that nanotechnology has not been already in the CR just a matter of laboratories, and proceeded to the practice.

Division of Czech reports as per workplace

Approximately one fifth of the participants has come from abroad to Olomouc. They were mostly the representatives of research institutes and universities. For example, Professor Kiminori Sato  of  Gakugei University in Tokyo, dealing with applications of nanoparticles in the geological environment, or Ryoo Zaw Young of Kyungpook National University in Daegu, Korea, examining the carbon nanostructures.

Of the foreign companies in Olomouc,  mainly the manufacturers of laboratory equipment and nanoparticles have been presented, among them for example the British company NanoSight specializing in the development and manufacture of equipment for visualization and measurement of nanoparticles. Interest of the industrial sector on nanomaterials has been illustrated by the fact that in the accompanying conference program, 11 companies have exposed their products and showcased the laboratory and measuring equipment.
Among the exhibits, the atomic force microscope (AFM), American Agilent Technologies, has been seen on display, being exhibited by its Czech representative H test Prague or electron microscopes of Japanese company JEOL. The part of conference has been technological exchange (brokerage).
